Yuck!
Have you read John’s Coca Cola story? Somehow, I think I won’t drink the stuff ever again. I was never a great fan of Cola, but I admit that I drink it from time to time.
Cola that eats through the can, I can’t believe it…
Belated…
I’m so stupid! David, I read your entry from yesterday and concluded it was your birthday. I even sent Al an email about it so he could put you on Birthdays.Weblogs.com. And then I forgot to say Happy Birtday to you!
Sorry about that. Herzlichen Glückwunsch nachträglich!
Still behind the curtain
I’m still surprised how many pictures people shot for Behind the Curtain, and how different and interesting they all are, even if the photographer claims to have had a boring day.
Garret is putting up more pictures, and there are still quite a few galleries left for me to look at.
It’s nice to get feedback on our own photos. Craig, the photo you pointed to was especially for you! When André and I saw the book, we just looked at it other and grinned, and I took the picture. Here is another photo of it from the other side.
The comment that surprised me most, however, came from Rick Saenz:
So I know now that […] André and Andrea win the prize for Sweetest Couple hands down. And that it’s a rare privilege to get better acquainted with the rest of you.
Thanks Rick. I agree with your last sentence!
André and Andrea win the prize for Sweetest Couple hands down.
I call ’em as I see ’em. And I doubt that the rest of the weblogging community will dispute me on this.
All I’ll say is that there are a lot of cute couples out there!
Andrea and André, your pictures made me nostalgic for Germany. In Tübingen also I would bike through a farm on the way to school. The city and the country seem so close and sharply delineated. Here we have urban sprawl, where the luxury houses and strip malls begin far from the city.
Thank you very much!
I was just surprised to hear this, and I guess it’s not my job to judge whether you’re right or not.
By the way, I enjoyed viewing both your ‘Behind the Curtain’ pictures and the ones of the different rooms in you house, which you posted a while ago. I was curious about that classroom at home!
I guess that the German regulations about the size of building sites and about where you are allowed to build are the reason for this.
And we don’t have as much space in Germany as you do in the USA, so we have to use it well. You know Germany. Imagine we would build towns and cities ‘the American way’, with lots of space between houses – there would be no countryside left!
Bonn is a fairly nice and green city, and we live only 200 m from the city border, so it feels more like living in a village here. You can see it pretty well on this photo that shows Bonn from above:
I found it on http://speedmap.ga-bonn.de/ and marked the way from our house (red dot on the left) to the University (red dot on the right).
Um, scale? The trip to the University as I’ve marked it is around 3 km (2 miles) long, I think.
i wasn’t teasing about cleaning the insides of bike frames. most bicyclists know that trick.
take anything you’ve got in the house that’s a bit rusty, and let it soak in coca-cola. it’s not fast, but it does a good job …

Yes, I know. There’s an urban legend going round over here that raw meat will dissolve within 24 hours when soaked in Coke. Or maybe it’s true. I’m not sure about the 24 hours, but it surely will have an effect over time.
Lots of other wacky uses for coke can be found here.
Thanks for figuring out it was my birthday from what I wrote on Sunday and letting Al know — he dropped me a note and I confirmed it, so I got a birthday salute, even if it’s on the wrong day!
After a certain point, birthdays become less important, I’ve been told. This seems to have been my year for that to happen.
But I always appreciate good wishes!
