Either spring is near, and the stork I saw today was among the first to migrate back, or it was one of the rare ones that doesn’t migrate and spends the winter here.
In any case, I saw it on my daily walk, and it flew towards our village and seemed to circle above it for a bit before I lost sight of it.
It didn’t look quite as impressive as this photo, but it was almost overhead.

André and I have actually been to five of the parks featured in the article, but we might check the other five out too sometime in the future.
If you think there is a National Park (or National Monument, or other place of interest) missing from the list that we should put on our list – especially if it’s in the Southwestern USA – please let me know!

Heute bin ich in den Rheinauen spazieren gegangen und habe gehofft, an einem der Altrheinarme mal wieder einen Eisvogel zu sehen. Drei Mal habe ich bereits einen Eisvogel hier in der Nähe entdecken können, aber leider hatte ich heute kein Glück. Wenn sie nicht gerade fliegen, sind sie aber auch wirklich nicht leicht zu entdecken, denn von vorne sind sie sehr unauffällig rotbraun. Dafür habe ich eine sehr informative Seite über Eisvögel mit vielen schönen Fotografien entdeckt:

Der Eisvogel war in Deutschland 1973 und 2009 Vogel des Jahres (hier kann man auch den Ruf des Eisvogels anhören).

Today I whipped up a little Scotty Dog for the big sister of the twins for whom I sewed the blankets with initials.
Each square was 4cm (1.6in) big including seam allowance, or about 3cm (1.2in) finished.
I included two fussy-cut squares of the fabric that I used for the blankets – see the pirate crab and the parrot?
