I went to Berlin for a seminar yesterday and today. Last night I met friends for dinner, then went for a walk to the Brandenburg Gate. Although it’s been 27 years since the Berlin wall fell, it still chokes me up to actually be able to walk through the gate.

NPR the two-way: Schiaparelli Mars Lander May Have Exploded On Impact, European Agency Says.
“”Estimates are that Schiaparelli dropped from a height of between 2 and 4 kilometers, therefore impacting at a considerable speed, greater than 300 km/h [186 mph]. The relatively large size of the feature would then arise from disturbed surface material. It is also possible that the lander exploded on impact, as its thruster propellant tanks were likely still full.””
Today André and I took advantage of the lovely weather – sunny, blue skies, temperatures up to 25°C (77°F) – and went for a hike in the Palatinate Forest.
This was the view near our return point. It was a bit hazy, but otherwise just perfect.
