Ostankino TV tower

The fire in the TV tower in Moscow is under control, says CNN: Russia tower fire ‘under control’

The article says that three people are trapped in the tower. The German news site Seite 1 says two people, a fire fighter and an elevator operator, have been found dead. They didn’t know whether there was a third person in the tower.

Update: The SWR 3 radio news just said that four people died in the tower. The fire has been extinguished, but the tower probably has to be torn down because some steel ropes inside the tower have been destroyed by the fire. The ropes hold the tower in place, but were not heat-resistant and thus torn by the fire.

Finally!

The photos are here. Do you remember that André and I met Craig in Koblenz on June 14? Well, I took some photos then, and I finally got them developed! I also had a Picture CD made, and here are a few shots of us in Koblenz.

Notice that Craig wore his UserLand Frontier T shirt so we could recognize him when we met in his hotel’s lobby. (You can see the UserLand sign best in the last picture.)

Keine Ahnung, was da los ist.

if you notice the date up top, the ‘hotlist’ hasn’t cycled since 8/14/00.

as a rule, mine runs about four or five links less than doing a search on weblogs.com. in other words, if i search for ‘array.edit’ on weblogs.com, i get between 27 and 32 people linking to me. the ‘hotlist’ usually reports 24-29.

i can’t search on ‘array’ because the term array is used in many javascripts, giving a false positive.

Oops, I didn’t notice that! Maybe we should tell UserLand about that…

There was some more discussion over at the Schockwellenreiter’s Discussion Group, and arf (one of the NetDyslectics) said the harvester counted only links to the homepage, i.e. http://array.editthispage.com (with or without an additional “/” in the end), but not links to discuss or a story or a day. That would be the reason why the hotlist finds fewer links than a search.

I just tried andrea.editthispage.com: The hotlist harvester found 20 links on August 14, while a search yields 27 links today. That’s pretty similar to your results.

dave mentioned the hotlist harvester not working the other day on scripting news.

the ‘arf’ hint explains a lot i didn’t understand. thanks!
