“The worse things that happen, the more people come.“

Outside online: Dave Morton Is Quitting Everest. Maybe. (It’s Complicated.) By Abe Streep.

“After two years of unimaginable tragedy, everyone from outfitters and Sherpas to would-be climbers and the Nepalese government is questioning the future of commercial mountaineering. And then there’s Morton, a veteran guide who spent the past year asking: What happens when you try to leave the world’s most lucrative mountain forever?”

Spring has sprung!

On my walks during the past few days I’ve seen all kinds of spring flowers and buds on all the trees and bushes. During the weekend we had temperatures up to 20°C (68°F) for the first time.

The woods are full of bear’s leek (wild garlic, Bärlauch):

Veronica / Ehrenpreis:

Corydalis / Hohler Lerchensporn:

Lesser celandine / Scharbockskraut:

Cowslip / Schlüsselblume:

??? / Springkraut:

Dead-nettles / Taubnesseln:

Viola / Veilchen:

Chickweed / Vogel-Sternmiere:

(BTW, I found out that I barely know any names for German/European wildflowers in English. I had to look up all the translations.)

Ab auf die Insel

André and I spent a few days on the North Frisian island Amrum this week. We had a day and a half of wonderfully sunny, if windy, weather, followed by an overcast day and light rain on the day we left.

Here are a few photos:

On the Kniepsand beach near Norddorf, there were only a few Strandkörbe for rent this early in the year.
