Sad news?

“you have found array. but array.editthispage.com no longer exists. if you are a member of this site, a bulletin will be forthcoming.

Is Garret Vreeland taking down array?

That would be too sad!

Unfortunately, I am not a member of his site, so I’ll never know what’s in his bulletin. But I’m interested in his reasons for closing down the website nevertheless.

Craig Jensen comes to Germany

Craig Jensen is going to accompagny his daughter, who sings in the Austin Girls Choir, on a trip to Germany. The choir will perform in Cologne, too. That’s just 20 miles north of Bonn (my current home town), so maybe I’ll be able to go to their concert.

Oregon

Oliver says: “WILL I TAKE MY CAMERA? You bet.”

Okay, Oliver, I heard you. Maybe I should have asked instead: Are you going to post pictures of your trip on The Far Side of My Mind?

But I guess the question is superfluous as well.

Manila Sites’ Updates

Hey! There’s a new Updates page with all the Manila Sites on it.

Will there also be a new Top 100 page? I’m not on the current one. Seems like my site is one of the ones that have been moved to another server.

Dave says:

“Yes, your site was moved to increase performance of both your site and the server it used to be on. Congratulations Andrea, lots of people are reading your stuff. Keep up the good work!!”

I feel honoured!

Hey!

Oops, I missed two days! Has this happened before? Hmm…

Oregon

Alwin Hawkins has posted some information about Oregon.

“I am a firm believer that Portland is one of the few places outside of Germany or England where you can get a decent pint of beer. Microbrews are big here (pardon the expression), considering that coffee is almost the regional beverage it’s even more amazing you can find a decent hefeweizen…”

Good to hear that – I like a cool hefeweizen on a hot day. But I’m afraid it wouldn’t lure André to Oregon because he doesn’t like beer.

But of course, we would not go anywhere just to taste the beers. I guess we’d both enjoy visiting the rainforest or watching the whales migrate.

Thanks, Alwin – makes me want to go there right away! Sadly, this is not possible. The students I help with math have their final exam on May 11 – and there’s still a lot of work to do.

Besides, I got my last Schein (the piece of paper saying that I successfully participated in a course at the uni) the day before yesterday. We celebrated with a hefeweizen!

I just read that Oliver is going to Oregon soon. Makes me want to go, too.

Oliver, are you taking your camera? I wanna see photos!

Veeery late flip today. It will be tomorrow in half an hour!

Maibaum in Bavaria

Oliver has a link to pictures from the ritual of putting up the Maibaum (literally: may tree). I wondered what they make foreigners think about Germans. Do they all wear Lederhosen and Dirndl?

No, they don’t. Actually, this looks very foreign to me because I was born and grew up in Lower Saxony and now live in North Rhine-Westphalia, while Oliver lives in Bavaria.

We don’t have Maibäume here. Around Bonn, there seems to be a tradition that boys put up a birch at the house of their sweethearts, but I’ve never seen that done in Lower Saxony.

Sehr später “Flip” heute…

Maibäume in Bayern

Where is Oregon?

Alwin Hawkins says:

I wish Andrea could have come through Oregon when she was here in the states. Ah well. I’ll just add her to my links at the side.

Thanks! You’ve probably noticed you’re among my links as well.

Maybe we will come to Oregon on our next trip. I want to do the north-western part of the USA next, places like Yellowstone Nationa Park, Seattle, Vancouver…

Yes, I know, Vancouver is in Canada. I want to go there anyway.

What places would you suggest to visit in Oregon?

By the way, on my last visit at the Yellowstone web site, I read that they were going to add QuickTime panoramas soon. Here they are:

Yellowstone’s Virtual Reality Panorama Home Page, QuickTime 3 or 4 required.

Back to California?!

Since our journal ended yesterday, I went back to California today – on the internet!

Craig Jensen from BookNotes had this link to the Huntington Library and Gardens a couple of days ago. I’ve visited the Garden in 1992, when I was staying with a family in Hesperia. I vividly remember the Japanese Garden and the Desert Garden. (QuickTime movies)
