… but it seems some people have a look at my site nevertheless. I followed Wes‘s Link to Weblogger.Com to have a look at their design. I like it, too! Then I looked at their list of “cool looking Manila sites… that we did not design!” – and found a link to my site there! [Blush!]

Are Europeans more mature than Americans?

Maturity is a very hard thing to measure in absolute terms, as it means different things in different cultures. For Americans, it’s a “grass is greener on the other side” thing. One could come up with examples of behavior that would be labelled immature on one side of the Atlantic and mature on the other side — but in talking about this stuff it’s very easy to hurt people’s feelings on both continents.

Bottom line: I think European and American teenagers are equally mature, when viewed in the context of their respective cultures.

You’ve got a point there, Brent. And it seems that maybe either side considers the other to be more mature because of these differences.

… aber trotzdem schauen offenbar einige Leute auf meiner Site vorbei. Ich folgte Wes‘ Link zu Weblogger.Com, einem Manila-Hosting-Service (ähnlich wie EditThisPage), um deren Design anzusehen. Wirklich sehr sehenswert! Und übersichtlich dazu.

Dann sah ich ihre Liste von “cool aussehenden Manila sites… die Weblogger nicht designt haben!” – und fand dort einen Link zu meiner Site! [Rot werd!]

Sind Europäer erwachsener als Amerikaner?

Erwachsensein läßt sich schwer messen, und es hat in verschiedenen Kulturen eine verschiedene Bedeutung. […] Man könnte leicht Beispiele für Verhaltensweisen finden, die auf der einen Seite als erwachsen, auf der anderen aber als kindisch gelten – aber wenn man darüber diskutiert, ist es leicht, die Gefühle beider Seiten zu verletzen.

Zusammenfassung: Ich denke, Europäer und Amerikaner sind gleichermaßen erwachsen, wenn man sie in ihrem kulturellen Kontext betrachtet.

Das ist wohl wahr. Offenbar ist es so, daß jede Seite die andere aufgrund bestimmter Verhaltensweisen für erwachsener hält.
