Old Books about Physics

The Burndy Library of the Dibner Institute (MIT) provides original works by Isaac Newton in its The Online Newton Project:

“The goal of the project is to provide online access to all of the Newton mansucripts in the Babson Collection, and to all of the books of Newton that were published in his lifetime in Latin, French or English. [...] The books represented are Newton’s great Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy, his treatise on Opticks, the Arithmetica Universalis, containing the lectures in mathematics he gave in Cambridge, as well as Analysis per quantitatum series, fluxiones, ac differentias, etc. which contains some of Newton’s earliest mathematical discoveries as they relate to his invention of the the calculus. [...] The online editions are in Adobe pdf format.”

I’m just downloading Opticks.

This reminds me of the site I used while writing my thesis: The Cornell University Library: Historical Mathematics Monographs.

I just discovered that this collection is only one part of Cornell University Library Windows on the Past, which also includes the Historic Monograph Collection, the New York State Historical Collection, the International Women’s Periodicals, the Ezra Cornell Papers, and the NEH Agriculture Collection.

Mit der Zeitschrift wird das Ziel verfolgt, die Fortschritte der Fachdidaktik Physik zu dokumentieren und Neues zur Diskussion zu stellen.” “Sie wird vom Fachverband Didaktik der Deutschen Physikalischen Gesellschaft (DPG) initiiert und betreut. Damit steht jedem, der auf dem Gebiet der Physikdidaktik tätig ist (Universität oder Schule), ein referiertes Organ zur Publikation seiner Forschungsergebnisse zur Verfügung.”

Three Years

This weblog is three years old today. I find it hard to believe that I’ve been doing this for such a long time. Although I didn’t have much time since I started teaching almost a year ago and even though I can’t write about many school-related things here, it’s still fun and interesting to do.

I talked about weblogging two years ago. Much of what I wrote then is still valid, so I will spare you with another tirade. However, there’s an update to the list of webloggers I’ve met in real life: We had the pleasure of meeting Sam DeVore (with his family), Garret (and his wife) and Hal during our trip to the US last summer. But you all know that story…

Kulinarisches

Nach den leckeren Muffins gestern hat André heute einen sagenhaften Penne-Auflauf gemacht. Wir haben sicher schon ein bis zwei Dutzend Rezepte vom Pastaweb ausprobiert, aber dieses landet auf meiner Favoritenliste ganz weit oben, gemeinsam mit Minestrone mit Hähnchenbrust, Tortellini-Brokkoli-Auflauf und Tiramisu.

Ist DSL ansteckend? Ralf und Jörg vermeldeten beide gestern ihren neuen DSL-Anschluß. Ich weiß noch, wie begeistert ich von der Geschwindigkeit war, als wir unseren Anschluß vor eineinhalb Jahren bekamen. Wer ist der nächste?
