Quilting

The Cutting Table: The Story of Us on Turning Point. (video, 24 minutes)

The Cutting Table is the weblog of the Missouri Star Quilt Company, who also offers free video quilting tutorials, which you can watch on their YouTube Channel.

One of my favourite tutorials by Jenny Doan is the one for the Missouri Star, which I used to make a Christmas table topper for my mom last year. I just realized that I forgot to take photos of it – I searched for one to post here. The only photo I’ve got is this one that my parents sent me of the table topper “in action”:

Actually, the quartered stripes quilt they posted today looks like it would make a fun wall hanging. I might have to try that out. Now let’s see if I’ve got striped fabric in my (very small) stash…

Quilt Envy

If I had unlimited time (and budget for buying fabric and notions), I would love to sew a lot more. One of my favorite quilters that keeps a weblog is Ashley of Film in the Fridge fame. Take a look at these gorgeous quilts:

Modern Quilts

Tara Faughnan (website, weblog) makes beautiful modern quilts. I like the colors and the geometric patterns she chooses and wouldn’t mind having one to hang on our living-room wall. Or maybe I should steal one of her ideas, adapt to our color palette, and get on with the sewing myself!

Michael Miller Fabrics offers a printed cotton fabric with the Fireworks design by her, and you can download the instructions (PDF) for her Prism Quilt for free. Jolene of Blue Elephant Stitches made this version using subtle prints next to solids.
