To Hetzwege

Tomorrow – no, today! – I’m going to visit my parents for the weekend. My train will leave from Bonn in 12 hours, read: shortly after noon.

I’m also going to visit some friends and my grandparents. I haven’t seen any of them since Christmas, and it will be nice to meet again.

Since my father has internet access, I can flip the home page from there, too!

Nach Hetzwege

Morgen – nein, heute!

Happy Birthday!

Hallo Gabi! Alles Gute zum Geburtstag!

Panama

Susan is leaving for Panama today. Have a nice trip! I’m already looking forward to the photos.

TigerentePanama makes me think of Janosch. I’m afraid he is not well known in the USA. Janosch is a writer who also writes and illustrates children’s books. His most famous character probably is the Tigerente (“tiger duck”). Click on the Tigerente to go to a Janosch page in English I found.

I remember a story of his in which the Little Bear and the Little Tiger find a wooden box with the name “Panama” on it. The box smells very good (as a child, I presumed it smelled of bananas, because the words sound alike), so they decide that Panama must be some kind of paradise and they want to go there. They walk and walk and walk… only to return to their home after walking in a large circle for days. But the trees and grass have grown some, and home looks sweeter after some days on the road…

Summer’s coming!

Today was the first really warm day in Bonn. The temperature ranged between 20 and 25°C (68 to 77°F). I know, those of you who live in California don’t think this is spectacular, but for us, it is!

André and I went inline skating in the afternoon. Perfect weather for that! At a little creek not far from our house, we visited to parrots. Or whatever they are. We saw one of them, a bright green bird with a parrot-like beak but smaller that a real parrot, a couple of days ago. That time, it was chasing a squirrel on a tree, or rather, shooing it away from a hole in the stem which we guessed was its home.

Today, we saw two bright-green birds on the same tree. Must be a couple. One of them disappeared into the hole quickly, the other was again busy keeping a squirrel away.

I didn’t know there were wild parrots in Bonn, but we saw some in Cologne (30 miles north of Bonn). They prefer to spend their time in the Cologne Zoo, but don’t belong there. We were told they are the descendants from birds that escaped from their cages.

I guess we’ll visit them from time to time to see what they’re doing. They must be awfully cold in winter!

Another community link

I searched Weblogs.com for andrea.editthispage.com. It found eleven weblogs which I knew – and NoLondon: “Andrea avoids LA

Now who is NoLondon? Anyway, he’s right. We didn’t visit Los Angeles on our Trip to the USA. Did we miss anything?

John Muir

Yesterday I wrote we met John Muir in person. Duncan says there was a John Muir Festival 2000 in Dunbar these days. Details can be found at www.muir-birthplace.org.

“Can’t believe more than a week has gone by since my last post. I have Andrea to thank for giving me the impetus to add some news to this site. In particular, her and André’s weblog entry about their trip to Yosemite.”

I had hoped a link to you would get your page flipped!

Community link

“And Andrea, how have I been missing a link to you all this time?! It’s there now.”

Frankly, I don’t know how this could have happened. After all the Schogetten we sent to you!

Just kidding. Thanks for the link, John!
