Around the world

Liliane and Emil Schmid from Switzerland have been on a trip around the world for over 15 years – in the same car! They traveled 314,517 miles or 506,165 km and visited hundreds of countries. Excerpts from their journal and some of the more than 30,000 photos can be found on their website, Weltrekordreise, in English and German.

Is it possible that the hits on the homepage are no longer counted if you turn home page caching on? I did that a couple of days ago, and the page didn’t get 30 hits while I normally get around a hundred hits a day…

Barb and Roland are getting married today. Herzlichen Glückwunsch and all the best!

(About the photo: I played around with my camera yesterday and tried the manual focus for the first time. The rose is of the tiny variety that grows in flowerpots on windowsills, and I set the focus on 10 cm. I really ought to try more of the features that the camera offers.)

Yesterday, Jeff pointed to this really cool world clock.

Sorry my entries have gotten so short again lately. I’m preparing for the oral exams, the first of which will be on October 17th. I’ve got more pedagogy books to read until then than I like… differentiation inside the classroom, anyone?

Und falls es jemanden interessiert: Ein Glossar mit Fachbegriffen aus der Pädagogik gibt es bei der Pädagogischen Akademie des Bundes Linz: deutsch-englisch und englisch-deutsch.

Personal

André is going on a weekend trip early tomorrow morning. The trip involves two one-hour flights in each direction, and I have to admit that I’m a bit nervous about this. Both Frauke and Oliver went on inner-european flights this week and didn’t report anything unusual, which is reassuring. The security checks seem to be tighter, which probably is a good thing, and I know that there really is no need to worry more than before, but I will be relieved when he’s back.
