Yay, new pictures at Garret’s!
Why do his photos always look better than mine? Is it that the weather is better in Santa Fe in April than it is in England in March?
Anyway, here is day 4 of our trip to England. Only four photos today, I’m afraid…
digital cameras have challenges in lower light situations; it’s not your photography! santa fe is bright and contrasty … and DRY, which requires a whole different set of skills than photographing in foggy england. moisture in the air significantly reduces sharpness, contrast … but can make the most wonderful muted colors.
other factors: i have at least a dozen tools here for color balancing and other things. the little kodak 4800 i bought allows me to manually set shutter speeds and apertures quickly, rather than relying on autoexposure. if only they’d allow manual focus … i want that nikon d1x … maybe when i win the lottery.
i can even begin to tell you how delighted i am with your photo tour of england! sandra hasn’t been back to england since she was a child. she’s getting a big kick out of seeing her ‘homeland’ …

Well, I only use Photoshop, which is quite powerful. I’m always amazed at how well the Autolevels filter works. Lots of other possibilities, too.

My Nikon Coolpix 990 allows manual shutter speed and aperture as well, but so far I have relied on the automatic. It’s just so convenient to shoot away without bothering with all those settings… sigh. But I really should start experimenting with aperture and exposure time.

Wow, I hadn’t thought about that! From which part of England does she come, and how old was she when she moved to the USA?
she came from kenton, on london’s outskirts. she was 7 … then moved to bermuda, of all places. tough life!
