Turkish Music in Panama

Susan says she heard Simarik by Tarkan in Panama. Did you know he was born and raised in Germany? Simarik (the song with the kissing sound in the refrain) was last year’s summer hit in Germany. I tried www.tarkan.com, but it didn’t work. My next try was more successfull: www.Tarkan.de. The site is available in English, German and Turkish. Here is his biography.

Bilder mit Umlauten im Namen

Gerade habe ich herausgefunden, daß Manila Shortcuts für Bilder mit deutschen Umlauten darin nicht umsetzt. Auf meiner 10 Bücher Liste fehlten nämlich genau zwei Bilder: Die Nornenkönigin und Die Säulen der Erde!

Türkische Musik in Panama

Susan (aus den USA) hörte bei einer Reise nach Panama zum ersten mal Simarik von Tarkan. Türkische Musik in Mittelamerika – von einem Türken, der in Deutschland geboren wurde und auch zeitweise hier lebte.

Simarik (der Song mit dem Schmatz! im Refrain) war letztes Jahr der Hit des Sommers in Deutschland.

Ich habe es mit www.Tarkan.com versucht, aber offenbar gibt es die URL nicht. Aber mit www.Tarkan.de hatte ich Erfolg: Es gibt alle (?) Inhalte in deutsch, englisch und türkisch. Hier ist seine Biographie.

“Andrea’s Book Challenge”

Thanks very much for the links on your weblogs, Sheila, Alwin, Craig and Oliver.

However, I didn’t have a challenge in mind when I posted my list. I just liked Damien Smith‘s idea.

Alwin has posted a list of his Top Ten Alternate Worlds.

I like the term “alternate world” for a book because that’s just what some great books are. From my list, I felt like almost living in another world when I read the Memory, Sorrow and Thorn trilogy by Tad Williams. I read all the books in maybe two weeks, every day from morning till night. I was sad when it ended and I had to leave the world and the characters.

Thunder on Thursday

Oliver says it’s likely to be true. I’d say it looks like we’re going to have a thunderstorm in Bonn as well.

Olivers headlines remind me of the story about the Sams. Um, a literal translation seems difficult. This is a children’s book by Paul Maar in which a man observes that every day of the week something happens that has to do with the name of the day: sun on sunday, Mr. Mon visits on monday, Dienst on Dienstag (Dienst means something like work), the middle of the week on wednesday (which is “mid-week”, Mittwoch in German), Thunder on Thursday, free on friday (“freeday”). So when he meets a strange creature on Samstag (saturday), he cocludes it must be a “Sams”. There’s a picture of the Sams on the book cover. (Sorry, the books is not available in English.)

Oliver sagt, es könnte heute, am Donnerstag, wirklich donnern. Ja, in Bonn auch.

Olivers Überschrift(en der letzten Tage) erinnert mich an die Sams-Bücher von Paul Maar:

Ein Mann erlebt eine Woche lang folgende Ereignisse: Am Sonntag scheint die Sonne, am Montag besucht ihn Herr Mon, am Dienstag muß er zum Dienst, am Mittwoch ist die Mitte der Woche, am Donnerstag donnert es, am Freitag hat er frei. Als ihm am Samstag ein seltsames Wesen (siehe Bild oben) über den Weg läuft, schlußfolgert er: Das muß das Sams sein!

“Andrea’s Book Challenge”

Alwin Hawkins hatte einen Link zu der englischen Version meiner 10 Bücher-Liste. Und er hat sie als Ansporn genommen, eine Liste seiner “liebsten anderen Welten” zusammenzustellen.

Mir gefällt diese Bezeichnung für Bücher, denn genau das sind manche gute Bücher. Von meiner Liste trifft das (für mich) am ehesten auf die Drachenbeinthron-Trilogie von Tad Williams zu. Innerhalb von vielleicht zwei Wochen habe ich diese Bücher am Stück gelesen, von morgens bis nachts. Und am Ende war ich traurig, diese Welt und die vertrauten Charaktere verlassen zu müssen…

Ten Books

Ever since reading Damien Smith‘s Ten Books list months ago, I’ve wanted to create my own list. And here it is, finally!

Okay, it’s not really ten books, but maybe fifteen or so, depending on how you count them. For example, I’ve chosen to count The Lord of the Rings as one book, although most editions come in three parts. My list is a “Get 50% plus for free!” package.

Damien said that books are supposed to say something about the reader. It is for you now to decide whether my list tells you something new about me…

While working on this list, I realized that I’ve read most of my favorite books in English. I wonder if that means something?!

Zehn Bücher

Seit ich vor einigen Monaten auf Damien Smiths Site, Indiawest, die Liste seiner 10 Bücher gesehen habe, wollte ich auch so eine Liste der Bücher zusammenstellen, die ich am liebsten gelesen habe. Hier ist sie!

Na gut, es sind nicht wirklich zehn Bücher. Zum Beispiel habe ich den Hobbit und den Dreiteiler Der Herr der Ringe alle zusammen als ein Buch aufgenommen, weil im Grunde eine einzige fortlaufende Geschichte erzählt wird.

Damien Smith hat gemeint, die Bücher, die jemand liest, sagen etwas über die Person aus. Lernt man also aus dieser Liste meiner Lieblingsbücher etwas Neues über mich?!

Unfortunately, I am not a member of his site, so I’ll never know what’s in his bulletin. But I’m interested in his reasons for closing down the website nevertheless.

Craig Jensen comes to Germany

Craig Jensen is going to accompagny his daughter, who sings in the Austin Girls Choir, on a trip to Germany. The choir will perform in Cologne, too. That’s just 20 miles north of Bonn (my current home town), so maybe I’ll be able to go to their concert.

But I guess the question is superfluous as well.

Hey! There’s a new Updates page with all the Manila Sites on it.

Will there also be a new Top 100 page? I’m not on the current one. Seems like my site is one of the ones that have been moved to another server.
