Fast Ferien

Whew. I had exams on Tuesday and Thursday, hence the lack of updates. But now there are only two more days of school, and I’m more than ready for the holidays!

I’m looking forward to a short trip to André’s and my parents, including visits with my grandparents and some friends and attending a friend’s wedding. And then we will be off to Phoenix soon afterwards!

MetaFilter, July 12, 2002: 60 years ago today, Anne Frank started her diary while in hiding. There are a few good links in the thread. (As far as I know, Anne Frank started her diary on June 12, 1942.)

Anne Frank’s diary was the first book I read about the Holocaust. I think I was about her age and remember being very impressed both by her ability to write so well and by the circumstances under which she and her family had to live. I visited the Anne Frank Huis while in Amtserdam in 2000.

Wen es interessiert, wie man da spricht, wo ich herkomme, den verweise ich auf Plattmasters plattdüütsche Wöörbook. Und beim NDR gibt es täglich aktuelle Plattdüütsche Nahrichten, zum Lesen und als RealAudio-Datei.

Und einen besonderen Leckerbissen habe ich auch noch bei Plattmaster gefunden: Labskaus und andere plattdeutsche Gerichte. Warnung: Ich habe weder Labskaus noch Bohn, Beern un Speck, noch Hamburger Aalsuppe je gegessen. Aber die Zutaten- und Zubereitungsbeschreibungen sind einfach köstlich zu lesen. Wie schwer die plattdeutsche Küche ist, kann man am jeweils letzten Satz erkennen: “Dorto: Beer un Kööm”. Aalln’s klor?
