day6: Gardens in England

There’s an interesting article about the Eden Project (near St. Austell, Cornwall) in the Architecture Week‘s edition from June 20, 2001: UK Garden of Eden. There’s also a photo gallery.

Compare the photos to the ones André and I took when we visited the Eden Project (which opened on March 17, 2001) on March 26, 2001. And in case you wondered, here’s how the Eden Project works.

While in England last year, we also visited the Garden House. Next time I want to visit the Lost Gardens of Heligan, which were closed because of foot and mouth disease last time.

Mathematics and Art

There are some interesting links about M. C. Escher over at mybluehouse today, for example:

  • The official Escher site
  • The mathematical art of Escher
  • The Shrine of Escher
  • I finally put all the Escher links on a single page: M. C. Escher Links.

    Shuttle Launch

Susan is crossing her fingers for tonight’s shuttle launch. Let’s hope the weather is good enough!

Meanwhile, she is adding more photos from her adventures in Cape Canaveral: in chronological order, (From Coast to) Space Coast, Touring Kennedy Space Center , Shuttle Launch Day.

    Around the World

Eurotrip is “The No. 1 site for backpacking in Europe”. They’ve got hostel reviews, descriptions of travel destinations, packing and travel advice, recommend cheap tickets, guidebooks and web links.

    Community

Congratulations, John, on passing your oral examination!

I envy Susan who met a real astronaut and gets to watch the launch of the Space Shuttle in Cape Canaveral, Florida. She posted more photos today.

    Digital Photography

The new Nikon Coolpix 4500 is the successor of the Coolpix 995 and 990. It even has a special setting for capturing sunsets – now wouldn’t that be useful for a sunset fan like me?

(I just realized that I didn’t update my sunset collection for more than a year. I really need to take my camera for a walk in the evenings again.)
