Welcome to the Real World

It’s the first day of February, and tomorrow is the first day of my first real job. I’ve worked on other jobs during the time I had off from school or university, but they were just jobs for a few weeks or months and not something for which I had any education or schooling.

Tomorrow will be my first day at school as a “real” teacher, complete with a state-issued degree. I’ll be an equal member of the teaching staff with the same rights and liabilities as anyone else, albeit with only half as many classes (and half the pay). It is a strange thought that I was a Referendar until yesterday, but from tomorrow it is technically possible that other Referendare attend my classes and teach lessons while I supervise them.

Switch

My new school has two computer labs: One has go PCs running Windows, the other has got (old) iMacs and eMacs. I was asked in which of the two I’d like to have my classes, and since my experiences with the Windows machines at my old school are not very good, I chose the Mac lab. The computers are running Mac OS 10.2, so I thought it was high time that I say good-bye to my old system (9.something) and switch to MacOS X.

I haven’t yet installed all the software, but my new system is mostly up and running. It feels a bit like having a new computer – except that my harddisk is nearly full. Ten gigabyte seemed a lot of space when I bought it two and a half years ago, but it’s barely enough now. I’m currently looking through all my data and trying to get rid of some by archiving it on CD.

Around the World

And just for fun: I’ve been to these countries and these states in the USA (though I didn’t really set foot into those two states in the east, I just changed planes there).
