We got up at 7:30 a.m German time, which is nine hours ahead of California. After a quick breakfast and some last-minute preparations we caught a train at ten that took us to the airport in Frankfurt (Main). After weeks of cloudy weather and rain, it was a beautiful sunny day – but of course we expected the weather to be even more spledid at our destination!
At 4 p.m., our plane left Frankfurt Airport and headed to Cincinnati, Ohio, where we had to change planes to get to San Francisco, California. Only ten minutes after departure, we flew over our hometown Bonn and had a glimpse at the river Rhine.
The flights were rather uneventful. Some meals and snacks, a movie and some napping. The day got longer and longer, until we landed at San Francisco Airport at about 10 p.m.. Very tired, we managed to call the hotel we had booked in advance to pick us up and went straight to bed at midnight, 26 hours after we had gotten up at home.
