How good to see that finally it was only an hour till we landed in Frankfurt and therefore time for breakfast! We had tea, a croissant, fat-free yoghurt (something you won’t find in Germany ) and fruit.
We arrived in Frankfurt an hour before schedule, but lost 20 minutes while circling and waiting for a runway. We went through customs and proceeded to the baggage claim. After we got our heavy backpacks, we suddenly spotted two people we knew well: André’s parents!
They had arrived in Bonn the previous day, spent the night in our appartment and were supposed to go on a week-long bike tour starting that day. But since the weather was not very suitable for that, they had decided to drive to Frankfurt instead (by car, of course) to pick us up. What a nice surprise!
André’s father took my heavy backpack, and soon we were all sitting in the car and on our way to Bonn.
We arrived at our appartment at 2 pm and had lunch. Then I took our 23 rolls of film to the photo shop to be developed. We managed to stay awake until around 9 or 10 in the evening, and finally went to bed. I slept for 14 hours straight!
We have had a wonderful trip and have seen many great parks in California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah. We have decided we have to come back one day. There are even more things we didn’t see, didn’t do – hiking down into Grand Canyon, driving the White Rim Road at Canyonlands, visiting the sand dunes in Death Valley… the list could be continued almost infinitely. One day we will go back!
